About Aikido

Aikido is a Japanese martial art unlike other martial arts. The explicit goal of Aikido is to create Peace in the world. We practice to disable an attack against us without harming the attacker. To do so we learn to use the energy of the attack itself to unbalance the attacker and gain control of their body using joint locks, pins, and throws. Much more than a physical martial art, Aikido is also a non-dual mindfulness practice, integrating body and mind, power and compassion, with graceful, flowing movements that require deep focus to master. Partnered practice ensures equal time learning to respond to an attack and receiving the technique while learning to fall safely and softly. Because there is no competition, and because students practice at their own pace with an attitude of respect and kindness, Aikido can be practiced by anybody no matter their physical limitations. People ages 13-90 are welcome on the mats. Children younger than 13 may practice when a parent practices with them.

Susan Dutton, Sensei

Susan learned Aikido under Bob Graebel Sensei who was a student of Akira Tohei Shihan and Kennan Purdy Sensei.
